Flame Health Pharmacy have been instructed to recruit an Independent Prescribing Pharmacist for our client, an online pharmacy based in Cambridge. This is a confidential opportunity combining direct patient care with the development of NHS and private prescribing services.

The role is fully on-site and offers a salary of £55,000 to £85,000, depending on experience. It will suit a registered pharmacist prescriber who enjoys hands-on consultations and wants to help shape clinical services as they develop.

Job Overview

Our client is seeking an Independent Prescribing Pharmacist to provide NHS and private consultations from its Cambridge premises. The salary is £55,000 to £85,000, depending on experience, for a full-time, permanent position. It is suited to a patient-focused prescriber who is ready to take ownership of clinical services and work closely with product and engineering colleagues.

About the Job

You will provide NHS prescribing consultations, including Pharmacy First and contraception services, as well as new prescribing pathways. Consultations will take place by phone, video and in person, with prescribing delivered from the premises on most working days. You will maintain consultation records and claims, contribute to prescribing audits and help shape how NHS consultations are supported by the pharmacy’s software.

Alongside this, you will manage private consultations, including weight management and men’s health, with associated clinical checks, identity and BMI verification, and follow-ups. You will develop clinical materials for new treatment areas, including questionnaires, exclusion criteria, protocols and patient information, working with the Superintendent Pharmacist to secure approval. You will also work with product and engineering colleagues to review patient-facing changes before release and make clinical decisions about what software can do without direct clinician involvement. The role includes Responsible Pharmacist duties when rostered and clinical checking at busy times.

About the Employer

Our client is an online pharmacy serving patients across England and Wales, with both NHS and private prescribing services. Its work combines pharmacy practice with digital tools and a technology-supported dispensing operation.

The organisation is developing its NHS prescribing provision while expanding its private treatment areas. Clinical staff work with pharmacy, customer care, product and engineering colleagues, with clinicians responsible for clinical decisions. This offers a prescriber the opportunity to contribute directly to patient care and to the design of the services and processes supporting it.

What We Are Looking For

You must be a GPhC-registered pharmacist with the independent prescriber annotation. Your prescribing scope must cover, or be capable of being extended within three months to cover, the relevant Pharmacy First, contraception and private service conditions. You will need to sign a scope-of-practice and competence declaration before undertaking unsupervised consultations.

Recent, hands-on experience conducting patient consultations by phone, video and face to face is essential, as is evidence that you have developed a clinical service, protocol, questionnaire or pathway and seen it influence an outcome. You must be able to work on site near Cambridge five days a week, have the right to work in the UK, and have enhanced DBS clearance and professional indemnity in place. There must be no fitness-to-practise conditions restricting your prescribing.

Experience with Pharmacy First or contraception prescribing, EPS, an NHS smartcard, online pharmacy, Responsible Pharmacist duties or clinical software development would be valuable. Commercial awareness of pharmacy services is also welcomed.

Who This Role Suits

This role could suit a recently qualified pharmacy prescriber building momentum, as well as an established pharmacist who has already developed and delivered prescribing services. You will be motivated by combining regular patient contact with the opportunity to create and improve clinical pathways, and comfortable working collaboratively with technical colleagues.

Job Location

The role is based on site in Cambridge, with attendance required five days a week. The location is in the city of Cambridge.
