Flame Health Optometry is working with an established independent optical practice to recruit an Optometrist across practices in Howden and Knaresborough, offering £45,000–£60,000 per annum depending on experience. Working three to four days per week, this role would suit an optometrist seeking clinical variety, modern equipment and flexibility within a well-established setting.
The successful Optometrist will provide eye examinations for private and NHS patients, completing their own pre-tests and delivering appointments of approximately 30–45 minutes. Responsibilities include assessing vision and ocular health, discussing findings, recommending suitable vision correction and supporting patients with contact lenses.
You will use state-of-the-art equipment, including OCT and Essilor’s VisiOffice system, while contributing to services such as myopia management and dry eye clinics. The role covers two practices, with two testing rooms in Howden and one in Knaresborough. Standard hours are 9am–5pm Monday to Friday and 9am–4pm on Saturdays, with flexibility around Saturday working, including the possibility of working one in four Saturdays.
Our client is a well-established independent optical business with two practices serving families and welcoming both private and NHS patients. The owner has operated the business for approximately 20 years, and the successful candidate will work alongside another optometrist on site.
The practices provide comprehensive eye examinations, contact lens services and enhanced testing using OCT technology. The benefits package includes a pension, private healthcare, in-store discount, holidays that increase after five years, payment of professional fees and annual staff development days.
Our client is seeking an optometrist who can confidently conduct their own pre-tests and deliver thorough eye examinations for a broad patient base. Experience or an interest in contact lenses, myopia management and dry eye clinics would be relevant to the services provided across the practices.
You should be comfortable working across Howden and Knaresborough, communicating clearly with patients and discussing clinical findings and vision correction options in an accessible manner. [Suggestion: current professional registration and permission to practise as an optometrist would be expected for this position.]
This position would suit an optometrist looking for part-time work within an established independent practice, with access to modern diagnostic equipment and a varied clinical caseload. It may appeal to someone who values patient-focused care, professional development and the opportunity to work across two local practices.
The role is based across practices in Howden and Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. Free on-street parking is available in Howden, while parking in Knaresborough is chargeable.
