We are working on a fantastic new opportunity for a Trainee Dispensing Optician based in Tunbridge Wells. Our client are experts in eye care and pride themselves on the high level of care they provide their patients.

As a Trainee Dispensing Optician, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop the skills required to become a fully qualified Dispensing Optician. This program is delivered through blended learning, which includes distance learning, block release periods, and practice-based learning under the guidance of a supervisor.

Your responsibilities will include analysing prescriptions and providing advice on lens type and frame styling, taking frame, facial and lens measurements, completing distance learning coursework, attending block release periods for intensive study and practical training, and building a Pre-Qualification Portfolio (PQP) of case records.

Requirements:

• 5 GCSEs at Grade 4-9 (A-C), including English, Mathematics and Science
• Keen interest in Ophthalmic Dispensing
• Ability to commit to 10-15 hours per week for distance learning coursework
• Ability to attend two block release periods per year at ABDO College in Godmersham, Kent
• Ability to undertake full-time training while completing the program

Syllabus:

• Year 1: Ophthalmic Lenses, Optics, Professional Conduct and Communication, Ophthalmic Dispensing Practical
• Year 2: Theory of Ophthalmic Dispensing, Advanced Theory of Ophthalmic Lenses, Abnormal Ocular Conditions and Standard of Practice, Ocular Anatomy, Paediatric Dispensing and Communication
• Year 3: Refractive Management, Low Vision and Contact Lenses, Advanced Ophthalmic Dispensing Practice

Locations:

Year 1 will be set at the Tunbridge Wells branch, with the potential for year 3 to change to another branch.
