Flame Health Optical Sales have been instructed to work with a leading, innovative, contact lens business on a Business Development Manager position covering Bromley and the wider South East territory. This is a home-based field role offering a salary of £45,000 to £48,000, plus up to £10,000 bonus and an electric car, and it will suit a commercially minded sales professional with account management and a consultative approach.
The role is focused on building territory performance, developing customer relationships and driving growth across a defined geographic area. It will appeal to someone who brings presence and gravitas to meetings, and who is comfortable working across customer visits, virtual contact and phone-based engagement.
This position carries responsibility for annual sales of between £2.5m and £5m across an agreed territory. Day to day, you will manage customers, represent the business as the principal point of contact, and work closely with the UK Commercial and Marketing and Professional Services team to deliver agreed activity.
You will support Owners, Practice and Store Managers, ECPs and front of house teams, with a focus on growing the contact lens category and improving sales performance. The role also includes introducing new products, maintaining strong knowledge of product strategy, clinical and technical information, and delivering training in liaison with the Professional Services team.
You will work through a blended contact strategy of face-to-face, virtual and phone meetings, maintain CRM records accurately, attend seminars and exhibitions where required, and keep customer service levels aligned to account needs.
Our client operates in the optical sector and is focused on commercial growth, customer support and professional education. The business works across product, service and clinical engagement, with a structure that brings together sales, marketing and professional services to support customers effectively.
This is a role within a company that places value on long-term customer relationships, clear territory planning and consistent account development. The environment will suit someone who is comfortable balancing individual responsibility with close collaboration across internal teams.
You will need demonstrable experience in a professional sales environment, with a track record of defining and achieving sales results. A background in account management, consultative selling and relationship-led development is important, along with the ability to influence at different levels and communicate with confidence.
Strong interpersonal skills, listening ability and a coaching style are all essential, as is an understanding of investigative questioning and the sales process. You should be highly proactive, self-motivated and able to organise your own workload across a large geographical area. Experience in the optical industry is preferable, and computer literacy, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, is essential. A degree is preferred, or optical qualifications.
This role will suit a proven sales professional who is ready to take ownership of a substantial territory and build meaningful customer relationships. It will also appeal to an optical professional who enjoys a mix of commercial development, training and hands-on account management, and who wants a position where resilience, initiative and strong communication matter.
The role is remote within the designated territory, with regular travel across Bromley and surrounding South East locations including Croydon, Dartford, Canterbury, Maidstone, Broadstairs and Folkestone. There is also occasional travel across the UK for regional and national meetings, plus evening, weekend and overnight commitments where required.
