Job Overview
Flame Health Optometry is supporting a well-established independent optical practice in Chippenham, Wiltshire, recruiting a Part-Time Optometrist to join a highly experienced and clinically focused team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Optometrist seeking a patient-centred, relaxed working environment with longer appointment times, modern diagnostic equipment, and genuine involvement in the ongoing development of the clinical service. The practice offers a strong emphasis on quality care, continuity, and building long-term patient relationships.
You will work alongside a skilled and supportive team, including experienced Optometrists, a Dispensing Optician, and trained Optical Assistants who support clinics with pre-screening and advanced testing.
Key Job Details
Position: Optometrist
Location: Chippenham, Wiltshire, UK
Employment Type: Part-time
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Pattern: 2 full days per week, plus 2 Saturdays per month (half day)
Preferred Days: Monday or Friday, plus one additional midweek day
Flexibility: Additional holiday-cover days available, with flexibility to swap days around Bank Holidays
Salary & Benefits Package
Salary is up to £60,000 pro rata, depending on experience. Additional benefits include private medical insurance on a pro rata basis, GOC renewal fee paid on a pro rata basis, a one-hour lunch break, and free on-site parking.
Clinical & Working Environment
This is a relaxed, independent practice setting with a strong patient-first approach. The role offers extended appointment times, particularly during induction, and access to modern diagnostic and clinical equipment including Topcon OCT, MYAH, phoropters in all rooms, digital slit lamp cameras, Henson 9000, and both iCare and Intellipuff tonometers.
All patient records are fully electronic. The practice also delivers enhanced services including dry eye management, CUES, and complex contact lenses. Clinics are supported by trained Optical Assistants who carry out pre-screening, OCTs, and visual fields.
Team Environment
You will be joining a knowledgeable and supportive clinical team, working alongside two highly qualified Optometrists with additional clinical interests, an experienced Dispensing Optician, and trained Optical Assistants who help ensure an efficient and high-quality patient journey.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the continued development of the clinical team and wider service offering.
Induction & Support
Your first week will include protected time to become familiar with the practice systems, equipment, and workflows. Extended appointments will be scheduled during your early days to ensure you have the time and support needed to settle in confidently.
Candidate Requirements
The successful candidate must be a registered GOC Optometrist with a positive, professional, and patient-focused approach. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to build trusted relationships with patients and colleagues.
You should be organised, proactive, and able to manage your time effectively. Confidence using digital systems is important, including electronic patient records, email, office software, supplier websites, and referral portals. A commitment to ongoing learning and keeping up to date with current guidance and developments in optics is also expected.
