Should a Dentist screen a patient for signs of excessive drinking?
Researchers at The Royal College of Surgeons Dental Journal have suggested that Dentists should screen patients for signs of excessive drinking.
Extreme alcohol consumption can lead to cancer of the mouth, larynx and oesophagus and sometimes dentists are the first to identify mouth problems.
As a dentist, do you think screening patients for such issues is a good idea? Do you do this already? Researchers have suggested that questionnaires could be handed out at the start of consultations to identify those with high drinking levels. What are your thoughts on this?
