Flame Health Optometry have been instructed to recruit a full-time, permanent Optometrist in Winchester.
Offering a salary of £57,000 to £69,700 per annum, dependent on experience and based on a 40-hour week, this role will suit a clinically confident practitioner who enjoys variety, values excellent patient care and wants to develop within a supportive local team.
You will provide eye care, contact lens care and advice on eye health, delivering comprehensive eye examinations and other appointments, such as dry eye assessments, where your qualifications and practice needs allow. You will work to General Optical Council standards, offer clear recommendations focused on patient benefits, and advise on visual health, lifestyle and preventative care.
Working closely with Dispensing Opticians and other support colleagues, you will help ensure a smooth patient journey. The role also involves maintaining accurate, up-to-date patient records; using and maintaining knowledge of diagnostic equipment, including OCT, fundus cameras, tonometry and visual fields; and taking part in clinical governance and quality assurance. You will keep your knowledge current through continuing professional development and support practice growth through excellent care and communication.
Our client provides community eye care and hearing care services. The Winchester practice is described as having a supportive team culture, high professional standards and a strong focus on customer care, with Optometrists working alongside Dispensing Opticians and other practice colleagues.
The package includes payment of GOC and AOP professional fees, training support and CPD events, a company pension with life assurance, an incentive scheme, staff and family discounts, and 33 days’ pro-rata holiday including bank holidays. Other provisions include company sick pay, Perkbox, an Employee Assistance Programme and career progression opportunities. There is no Sunday or bank holiday working, and the rota includes one Saturday off each month.
You must hold GOC registration as a qualified Optometrist and a BSc (Hons) in Optometry or an equivalent degree. Experience in a community practice setting is required; additional accreditations, such as GRR or post-cataract accreditation, would be beneficial.
You will bring strong clinical skills and communicate clearly and effectively with patients and colleagues. A patient-centred approach, empathy and professionalism are important, as is accuracy in record-keeping. You should be able to collaborate across clinical and retail teams, manage your time effectively under pressure, and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.
This position could suit an experienced community Optometrist seeking a varied clinical role in a local practice, or a practitioner ready to continue developing their skills and expertise. It will appeal to someone who takes pride in patient outcomes and wants to contribute to a collaborative team while maintaining a good balance of clinical care and professional growth.
The role is based in Winchester, Hampshire, a historic city with a fast-paced environment. The practice setting may suit someone who enjoys variety and working as part of a local team.
