This opportunity will suit someone with optical experience who enjoys supporting a close-knit practice and providing attentive service around quality eyewear.
This is a varied, support-focused position in which you will help the practice run smoothly and ensure clients receive considered, helpful service. Your duties will include answering calls, working in the practice laboratory, carrying out adjustments and handling collections, as well as providing some dispensing support. Dispensing will not be your main responsibility, as the team already includes dispensing professionals.
You will receive training and have the opportunity to build on your existing knowledge of optics. The practice is open to full-time or part-time working. Standard hours are 9.00am to 5.30pm, with Saturday hours of 8.00am to 4.00pm. The full-time salary is £25,000–£27,000, depending on experience, and part-time pay is pro rata. Holiday entitlement is 28 days including bank holidays, pro rata for part-time arrangements. A start around March 2027 is anticipated, with some flexibility for candidates who need to give notice.
Our client is an independent, single-site opticians providing a specialist service and working with high-end eyewear. The practice has a small team comprising two Dispensing Opticians and a trainee Dispensing Optician, and is recruiting an Optical Assistant as a longstanding team member prepares to leave. A handover period with the departing employee may be possible, supporting training and continuity.
The practice is open to candidates from different optical settings. Previous experience in an independent practice may be helpful, but the priority is finding someone who will work well with the existing team.
You will ideally bring at least one year of experience in optics, although candidates with greater experience are also welcome. Some existing knowledge of optics is preferred, alongside an interest in developing your skills through training. Experience from a range of opticians will be considered.
You should be comfortable working with high-end products and be willing to contribute across the practical and customer-facing aspects of the role, from telephone enquiries and laboratory tasks to adjustments, collections and dispensing support. A considerate approach to clients and the ability to work cooperatively with the practice team will be important. The employer is placing particular emphasis on finding the right fit for its team.
This role could suit an Optical Assistant looking to develop their experience in an independent practice, or an established optical professional seeking a support-focused position rather than a role centred on dispensing. It may appeal to someone who values training, varied practical duties and the chance to contribute to a small team.
