Flame Health Optometry have been instructed to support the search for a GOC-Registered Optometrist to join a high-spec independent optical practice in Durham. This role offers a salary of £60,000 to £70,000 per annum, with full or part-time opportunities available, and will suit an Optometrist who values clinical autonomy, a patient-centred approach, and a well-equipped setting with genuine development potential.
The role centres on delivering comprehensive eye examinations, offering tailored clinical advice, and detecting and managing ocular conditions with care and accuracy. You will also maintain compliant patient records and work closely with the wider practice team, including a supportive dispensing team, to ensure a smooth and considered patient experience.
This is a position for someone who appreciates longer, patient-focused testing times and the chance to focus on clinical quality rather than volume. You will be working with modern equipment in a practice that supports strong clinical outcomes and long-term patient relationships.
Our client is a forward-thinking independent optical practice in Durham with an excellent local reputation. The business continues to invest in its clinical environment, patient experience, advanced equipment, and quality product ranges, creating a setting where standards are high and care remains personal.
The practice is described as high-spec and newly refurbished, with a friendly and supportive team culture. Its approach is quality-led, and the emphasis is on delivering outstanding care beyond modern expectations while maintaining a professional and welcoming atmosphere.
The successful candidate will be a GOC-registered Optometrist with strong clinical decision-making skills. You will need to bring a patient-focused and personable manner, along with excellent communication and a commitment to continued professional development.
The practice is looking for someone who is comfortable working with professional autonomy and who can contribute to maintaining high standards of care. A collaborative approach and the ability to work well with colleagues across the practice are also important.
This role will suit an Optometrist who wants real clinical freedom and values longer, more considered testing times. It will appeal to someone looking for a progressive independent practice and a move that could work as a short, medium, or long-term step.
The practice is based in Durham city centre, within easy reach of the surrounding area and local transport links. The location is close to the historic core of the city, with shops, hospitality and cultural landmarks nearby.
