How To… Get The Most Out Of Job Boards
Here at Flame Health, we use job boards on a daily basis to advertise our current opportunities and also to source brilliant candidates.
But how do you get the best out of job boards as a candidate? Here is our handy guide to utilising job boards effectively in the hunt for your next position, as they could help you to find your dream role, or even help your dream role to find you...
- Upload your CV - most job boards have the option to make yourself searchable, which means potential employers or recruiters can read your CV and contact you to discuss opportunities; make sure you tailor your CV to the kind of opportunity you are looking for to avoid being contacted about unsuitable roles
- Apply for jobs - having an account on a job board makes it easy to apply for lots of jobs quickly, but be sure to still tailor your CV to each role if they are very different; treat each one as a separate application
- Key words - ensure your CV includes keywords from the job description you are applying for, as it may be automatically scanned for them; a 'Professional Statement' of a few sentences summarising your experience at the beginning of your CV should cover this
- Cover letters - if you have the option of writing a cover letter to accompany your CV, keep it brief, summing up in a couple of sentences why you would suit the position
- Speed - adverts on job boards usually reach a large audience and will sometimes receive hundreds of applications, so if you spot a role you like the sound of - don't leave it too long to apply
- Alerts - most job boards have this feature of signing up for notifications of new jobs which might suit you; use this so you can apply to roles first and beat the competition
- Contact details - it sounds obvious, but ensure the contact details on your CV are correct and up-to-date
- Keep formatting simple - to ensure that your CV is uploaded correctly, use a simple font and avoid tables / images; stick to a Word or PDF file
