RNIB Warns Of A "Looming Capacity Crisis" In Eye Care Clinics In England
The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has published a report ('Saving Money, Losing Sight') which details how increasing numbers of patients and new treatments are stretching eye care in England to breaking point. The charity has called for an urgent inquiry into the matter.
The report contains a survey of 172 eye clinic staff, and reveals that 80% thought their eye care unit was unable to meet current demand, and 94% think that their department would not be able to cope with further increases.
Shockingly, more than a third of staff said some of their patients were actually losing sight due to a delay in treatment.
What are your thoughts on this? How can eye care adapt to meet future requirements? Flame Health want to hear your opinion!
