Regulation Of E-Cigarettes Welcomed By Pharmacists

The MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) announced plans yesterday to regulate e-cigarettes as medicines by 2016,e-cig-copie meaning that they would  have to follow the same rules and regulations as other prescribed drugs. Quality standards will be imposed, as well as advertising restrictions and possible age restrictions.
This decision has been welcomed by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, and it is hoped that this will put an end to any 'dodgy' products currently on the market, which do not provide any information to say where or how they have been made and could potentially cause health problems for users.
It is also hoped that these measures will stop e-cigarettes being seen as 'glamorous' by young people as advertising will be regulated; companies will only be able to advertise products for their medicinal use.
The MHRA has also said it would consider age restrictions on the sale of e-cigarettes, and the usage of e-cigarettes among children is being carefully monitored to investigate this further.
