Praise for Pharmacists!
Flame Health would like to acknowledge the work that has been undertaken by a Canadian study published online in Arthritis Care and Research.
Community pharmacists can identify patients with previously undiagnosed osteoarthritis of the knee, and be the catalyst for improving their quality of care as part of a multidisciplinary team in the community, according to the results.
They have found out that when community pharmacists offered patients additional support, which included a one-to-one consultation, educational materials, a medication review and referral to a physiotherapist for exercise, the patients’ quality of care improved compared with those who only received an educational pamphlet about their condition.
This is excellent news and yet another way of showing how a Pharmacist can be utilised within the community instead of a patient waiting to not wanting to see a GP!
