Do Optometrists have a role to play in raising awareness of driving in older patients?
Dr Julie Gandolfi, founder of Driving Research Limited has reported that Optometrists have a vital role to play in raising awareness in older patients about the need to self asses their driving abilities.
Dr Gandolfi described Optometrists as the 'acceptable face to older drivers of their need for self-management', she added: "Although there are a few people who neglect to monitor their eyesight as they progress through their driving careers, for the most part people are quite aware they do need to."
As an optometrist do you take this into consideration? Do you work alongside older patients on a daily basis and discuss the issues of driving at an older age? How do you approach such topics? Flame Health are keen to know how you go about this subject.
