Mouth Cancer Survey

A new survey conducted by The Foundation has shown that out of 250 patients, 88% would like to be checked for mouth cancer. The Foundation has estimated that around 90% of dentists regularly check for mouth cancer but only a small percentage discuss the issue directly with their patients.
In the last decade, mouth cancer has risen by 40% and is now responsible for an estimated 6,000 deaths a year in the UK.
The Foundation’s results highlight a gap in communication between the dentist and the public, who are left lacking the knowledge and awareness of a disease.
Flame Health are keen to know the thoughts from Dentists. What are your thoughts on discussing mouth cancer to your patients? Do you think the dentist’s chair is the best place to discuss this matter? Or do you think mouth cancer issues should be discussed at a GP surgery?
Chief executive of the Foundation, Dr Nigel Carter said, "Only by bridging the gap between dentist and patient can the public become more engaged with the threat of Britain's fastest growing cancer."
Please let Flame Health know your thoughts.
