Nationwide Diabetes Campaign in Wales is launched
Wales has launched a nationwide pharmacy campaign from June 13th - June 27th to seek patients at risk of developing diabetes over the next 10 years.
This will be done by assessing the patient's BMI, waist size and family history. Patients will be given advice on how to reduce their risk through lifestyle, while those most at risk will be referred to their GP.
Russell Goodway, chief executive of Community Pharmacy Wales said,
"I am very pleased to welcome the public health initiative. The local high street pharmacy is the ideal starting point for people to get to know their health, what risks they maybe under and how to reduce those risks."
It is estimated that there are 66,000 undiagnosed diabetes in Wales.
