Specsavers attends annual STEM-focused careers fair for 10–14-year-olds.
Optometry was recently featured at an annual careers event for young people interested in science and engineering. Hosted at the NEC in Birmingham on 21–23 June. Specsavers exhibited at the Big Bang Fair. Alongside organisations including Amazon, Rolls-Royce, British Airways and the Royal Air Force.
Attended by young people aged between 10 and 14 years. Specsavers said it was “really excited to be representing optometry and audiology at the Big Bang Fair.” During the event it “highlighted how optometry and audiology are rewarding and dynamic healthcare careers. Using cutting edge technology to help change people’s lives,” shared Lucy Knock, Specsavers early careers manager for career advancement.
Knock explained: “Young people attending the fair were able to have a go at being an optometrist, taking a close look at their friends’ eyes using the latest technology with the help of Specsavers clinicians.” “They also used virtual reality to explore the inside of a virtual eye and tried a fun and interactive game with simulation specs to see how different eye conditions can affect your reactions and vision,” she added. Schoolchildren also discovered what it takes to be an audiologist and were able to try performing wax removal from a dummy ear.
