Women in Vision UK to expand. The network for women working in optometry, ophthalmology, and vision sciences has a new structure and website.

The Women in Vision UK (WVUK) network has launched a new website alongside an updated format.

The organisation for women in optometry, ophthalmology and vision sciences will focus on five key areas: leadership, diversity, education, training, and research. A lead will be appointed to each domain.

WVUK president, Professor Mariya Moosajee, founded the organisation in 2017.

“Our ultimate aim is that there is no further need for us to exist. We know we are not alone in our field of ophthalmology and vision sciences; gender inequality exists across medicine, science, technology and many more sectors, and it’s just not acceptable,” she emphasised.

“We hope that we can empower our members to speak up and support each other, make positive change at all career levels and that we can educate everyone,” Moosajee added.

In 2021, the United Kingdom ranked 23rd on the global gender gap index, behind other European nations such as France, Germany, and Ireland.
