Hearing Loss In Care Homes
Flame Health Hearing Care were interested to hear that a nationwide study by the charitable organisation Action on Hearing Loss has investigated how hearing loss is managed by residents and care workers in care homes.
The results were unfortunately negative, and suggested that the issue is being mismanaged.
3/4 residents living in care homes are affected by hearing loss, which can lead to feelings of isolation and a diminished quality of life.
The study suggests that this is due to a lack of training for care workers, who may have a limited understanding of hearing aids and the need to adjust and maintain them. Background noise, such as raidos and televisions, should also be reduced wherever possible.
