Don't delay, get vaccinated today.
The Meningitis Research Foundation is asking all Pharmacists to urge those most vulnerable to IPD to see a doctor and get vaccinated.
This has been posed as recent figures have revealed that the uptake of the vaccine was as low as a third amongst at risk groups.
More than one in four cases of IPD are fatal in at-risk adults, namely those with underlying conditions such as HIV and chronic respiratory disease, according to research published in the Journal of Infection, with an estimated 15 per cent of over 16s in England living with one of these at-risk conditions.
Clare Brazill, Divisional Partner at Flame Health Pharmacy comments,
"At present a Pharmacist is a great first point of call for patients who are unable to see a doctor for advice. A Pharmacist can offer advice and guidance on vaccinations and of the importance of taking action now."
