Key Responsibilities:

We are seeking a highly experienced and proactive Head of Laboratory to lead the scientific and clinical setup, launch, and management of a new state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory in the UK.

This is a unique opportunity to build and shape a cutting-edge facility from the ground up, taking full ownership of scientific excellence, regulatory compliance, operational leadership, and clinical quality.

  • Lead the setup of a new diagnostic facility, ensuring it meets industry standards.
  • Lead the design, setup, and commissioning of a blood analysis laboratory, including equipment selection, layout planning, team recruitment, and process development.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring the highest standards of scientific integrity and clinical service.
  • Recruit, train, and manage a multidisciplinary team of biomedical scientists, technicians, and support staff.
  • Develop and implement laboratory procedures, standard operating protocols (SOPs), and quality management systems in compliance with UK regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and clinical relevance of all diagnostic testing services.
  • Serve as the clinical lead for the laboratory, supporting result interpretation, clinical consultation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Maintain robust quality assurance and control systems, validation protocols, and prepare the laboratory for accreditation (e.g., UKAS).
  • Build and manage relationships with external suppliers, partners, and clinicians to deliver a seamless, high-quality diagnostic service.
  • Stay abreast of advancements in diagnostics, biomarker development, and UK healthcare regulations.
Qualifications
  • BSc or MSc in Biomedical Science or a related discipline.
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist (essential).
  • Extensive experience with UK laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., ISO 15189).
  • Strong expertise in blood-based diagnostics, laboratory operations, and clinical quality assurance.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading teams and setting up laboratory operations from inception is highly desirable.
