Flame Health’s Tricky Interview Question Guide!
The consultants here at Flame Health have heard it all when it comes to challenging and sometimes bizarre interview questions!
We understand that if a questions throws you, it can leave you reeling for the rest of the interview, putting your chances of being successful and securing the job at risk. So here is our helpful guide on how to approach and answer a range of difficult interview questions...
- Outside of the box questions - some employers will ask crazy questions like 'How many people in London drink wine?' and it's easy to become completely flummoxed if you're not expecting it! But in this instance, remind yourself that there is no right or wrong answer; they are interested in your thought process; so as long as you can explain your answer (whatever it might be!) you'll be fine
- Weakness questions - this is a very common question: 'What are your weaknesses?' and can be difficult to answer without digging yourself a big hole to climb out of! But the thing to remember is that an interview is an opportunity to sell yourself, so pick just one weakness that is not crucial to the role, and then go on to explain what you are doing to improve your skills in this area
- Tell us what you know about the company - this question can be daunting. After all, you are speaking to somebody who already works for the company and so probably knows an awful lot more than you about it. But see the positive side, this is an opportunity to show how well prepared you are! When researching a company, don't just read the 'About Us' section of their website, go deeper - research the market and their competitors or the latest news in that industry. When answering, frame your response with 'I understand that...' or 'From my research I have learned...', this will show that you are not pretending to be an expert, yet you have made an effort and done your research
If it helps, role play these kind of questions with somebody before the big day, so you are ready to answer and can avoid becoming flustered!
