"Goodwill Of Nurses" Keeps NHS Running In Scotland?
A report by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has found that most nurses in Scotland feel forced to work overtime in order to meet the needs of their patients, and as a result patient care is suffering. The RCN suggests that the NHS in Scotland is 'close to breaking point', and that extra staff are 'urgently' needed. Here are the statistics from the report:
- 54% of nurses are working beyond their contracted hours each week to meet patient needs
- 58% responded saying they are under too much pressure at work
- 55% said they are not providing the level of care they would like to because of the added pressure
- 1681 nurses were surveyed
South of the border, nurses are slightly happier, the report discovered.
