Have you used the number plate test?
Flame Health Optometry have been shocked by new research released by global insurer RSA as part of its Fit to Drive campaign.
Alarmingly 90% of 1000 drivers questioned could not identify the main legal minimum requirement for car and motorbike users.
Lagging behind many of its European counterparts, the UK is one of a handful of countries which relies on a basic number plate test to assess whether newly qualified drivers meet legal eyesight requirements.
Over half of all drivers surveyed (52%) said that they had never used the number plate test to check their own eyesight. The new research also highlights widespread ignorance over the distance at which the number plate should be read, with 70% being unable to identify the correct distance of 20 metres.
