Consumer Watchdog Which? Reveals Shocking Optical News
Flame Health Optometry were shocked to hear that a new investigation by consumer watchdog Which? has claimed that buying ‘cheap’ glasses online could be dangerous for wearers’ eyes.
15 of the 36 pairs of spectacles bought by researchers from 13 online retailers failed tests performed by optometrists. Of that 15, a further 10 contained lenses which failed to meet the British standard required.
Rather than asking customers for additional measurements, it was reported that online stores estimated where the pupils would be, which if incorrect could be unsafe for the wearer when driving or climbing the stairs.
Researchers concluded that buying simpler prescriptions online might be fine, but they would have reservations about people buying more complex prescriptions over the Internet.
