Pharmacy's Role in Alcohol Screening
A study in London pharmacies has shown success after a 5 month pilot study.
The study involved 27 pharmacies delivery alcohol screening and brief intervention service after a one day intensive training session. Assessing the service, it was found there had been a significant reduction in alcohol consumption.
Patients who agreed to the service were asked a series of semi structured questions by a pharmacist to assess their alcohol use. Those at a high risk were referred to their doctor while those at increasing risk received tailored advice on reducing their intake.
Were you a pharmacist involved in this study? Please let Flame Health know how it went.
