Should Pharmacies Have a Bigger Role in Helping to Deliver Flu Vaccinations?
Industry leaders have commented that the community pharmacy sector should have a bigger role in helping to deliver NHS flu vaccinations following reports of shortages this year.
Pharmacies do have the commercial experience and expertise required, this could the free up GP’s to focus on the delivery of the vaccination programme.
A Boots spokeswoman says:
“We believe that there could be a bigger role for pharmacy in supporting the Department of Health in the distribution and administration of vaccines for next year’s flu season.”
Experts have said that in Scotland where community pharmacies are responsible for procuring the vaccine, there had been no shortages.
